Librarian Cindy Brooks said there are a growing number of Spanish-speaking families in the district. Many times, even if the students speak English, the parents do not and cannot read books to their children.
Lee students wrote a YAC grant and received nearly $800 for the books.
Now, Brooks said, the students have the option of reading in Spanish or English. She said it's good for the parent to be able to read to their children, but also be able to begin learning to speak and read in English.
Students who don't know how to speak Spanish can also benefit by getting a head start learning some of the words and phrases.
The colorful books are now on display in the Lee School library and available for students to check out.
