Lee Elementary sent one Odyssey of the Mind team to the regional competition. The team did very well and gained valuable experience. Primary teams are not eligible to advance to the state finals.

Who doesn't like chips and salsa, ice cream, cereal, honey and spearmint gum? But who knew so many of these foods in different brands are made right here in Michigan?

With assistance from a Barry County Youth Advisory Council grant, the Lee Elementary Library was able to purchase books written in Spanish and some written in Spanish and English.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day has become a day of service for many to honor King's work. Lee students learned about who Martin Luther King Jr. was, what he did and why his actions were important.

Lee Elementary student council conducted a sock drive throughout the school collecting 568 pairs of socks to donate to homeless shelters in Barry County. Students learned one of the most requested items at homeless shelters are socks and decided to create their “Socktober” schoolwide event. Thanks to the donations, many people in need will have warm feet this winter.

Lee third graders Noah Green and Logan Curtiss rushed back to Lee Elementary’s librarian Cindy Brooks excitedly showing her their completed closed circuit projects. Eyes on their Halloween papers glowed eerily when they completed the circuit built on the back of the paper.

Jordan Pranger had an idea one day that she wanted to do something to help others. She wrote a short note about her idea to her third-grade classmates in Krissta Hannapel's class, and it turned into something much bigger than even she expected.

It's OK to be just who you are - even if being yourself means you feel like you are a little different than everyone else. That's the message third graders received loud and clear from new children's author Katie Newell.
